Chris Di Staulo (born November 9, 1990) is an award winning Toronto-based director, screenwriter, and producer. He is known for having his film, ''Somnolence'', selected for world premiere at the 2014 Cannes International Film Festival,〔http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/cannes-film-fest-gets-wave-of-canadian-movies-1.2641861〕 in which it won many awards. Di Staulo’s work stems from his work in film school where he studied Directing at York University and graduated in 2013. During his time there, he wrote and directed a play, ''Sleepwalk'', that caught attention from various campus press. Chris Di Staulo was shortly asked to film multiple commercials for a variety of clients such as Budweiser, Purina, Western Union, Neilson Park Creative Centre, Axe, and many more. == Somnolence == Chris Di Staulo directed and wrote the short fantasy/science fiction film ''Somnolence'', which was selected out of thousands to be shown at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2014 for the Cannes Court Métrage lineup. Di Staulo’s internationally acclaimed film talks about the future of the human race that have evolved to the point where sleep is no longer necessary. The film is a mixture between dreams, the haunted memories of grief, and how George Porter (played by Nick Smyth) copes in this world. Di Staulo was one of the few Canadians who was selected to showcase their work at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2014. This was the year in which CBC notably commented on how Canadian filmmakers showcasing their work in 2014 is “an incredible vindication of our film culture”. Upon its premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival, ''Somnolence'' won many awards, and was picked up by distributors in less than 24 hours.
